Mass General Brigham hospital awards housing to 35 workers

Oak Bluffs, Mass.-based Martha’s Vineyard Hospital said it has reached its $30 million goal in private donations to fund its workforce housing project in Edgartown and awarded housing to 35 employees.

The hospital, part of Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham, hit the fundraising goal July 21, according to a hospital news release shared with Becker’s

Additionally, on July 24, MVH President Denise Schepici shared that 35 employees who entered the workforce housing lottery were deemed eligible by the Dukes County Regional Housing Authority to live in the new apartments.

The housing sits on a 26-acre parcel, now part of a 28-acre development, near the hospital and close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Groundbreaking took place in August, and the deadline for applications for the workforce housing was July 18, hospital spokesperson Greg Mathis told Becker’s. MVH expects employees to begin moving into their apartments Sept. 1. 

The project site includes a 48-unit apartment complex with three buildings, along with duplexes and townhouses totaling more than 70 bedrooms. 

“We’re not just building housing — we’re building stability, community, and a stronger future for healthcare on Martha’s Vineyard,” Ms. Schepici said in the release.
