Licensing flexibilities have been increased for pharmacists and technicians under the new executive order. The state’s initiative to allow nursing students to serve as licensed practitioners has been expanded by also including licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants and certified medical technicians. Respiratory therapy students also will be allowed to assist in increasing the emergency medical services workforce.

Mr. Hogan declared a state of emergency Jan. 4 to take short-term actions to support overwhelmed hospitals in the state and mobilized 1,000 National Guard members.
