Stormont Vail Health is investing $7.5 million in Washburn University, both based in Topeka, Kan., as part of a strategic partnership supporting a new health sciences facility.
Four things to know:
1. The facility will be named the Stormont Vail Health Clinical Institute of Excellence in recognition of the investment, according to an Aug. 11 joint news release.
2. The institute will bring Washburn’s Harmony J. Hines School of Nursing, School of Applied Studies Allied Health programs and Department of Kinesiology under one roof. It will feature advanced simulation spaces, collaborative laboratories and interdisciplinary classrooms.
3. The partnership builds on the two organizations’ longstanding relationship, which includes student clinical experiences, workforce training and academic collaboration.
“Many members of our team are proud Washburn alumni, and we see every day the impact the university has on the strength of our workforce and region,” Stormont Vail Health President and CEO Mark Slyter said in the release. “As healthcare continues to evolve, we need talented, highly skilled and compassionate professionals prepared to meet the needs of the communities we serve.”
4. Further details on the project timeline and next steps will be announced as plans progress, the release said.
