Hospitals in Ohio Announce Layoffs

Three hospitals in the Cleveland/Akron region announced that they will be letting go more than 200 staff members in response to the current economic situation, according to a report in MedCity News.

Akron General Medical Center will lay off 145, mostly non-medical, staff. In addition, its satellite cardiac rehabilitation services will be moved to the hospital’s main campus. Akron General will save $5.1 million with these measures.

St. Vincent Charity Hospital and St. John West Shore will lay off 60 clinical and non-clinical staff. The cuts will save $3 million at St. Vincent and $2.4 million at St. John. This announcement comes a week after the two hospitals amended their ownership agreements.
