Healthcare job growth continues; hospitals add 12K positions in September

Healthcare added 25,700 jobs in September, with hospitals contributing 12,000 to that total, according to the latest jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This job total is a decrease from the 33,200 healthcare jobs added in August but an increase from the 16,700 jobs the industry added in July.

Within healthcare, hospitals showed the most employment growth last month, adding 3,800 more jobs than the 8,200 added in August. Ambulatory healthcare services added 10,300 jobs in September, while nursing and residential care facilities added 3,400 jobs.

Overall, healthcare employment has increased by 302,000 over the year, according to the bureau.

The U.S. added 134,000 jobs in September.
