Gen Z workers’ AI skepticism intensifies

Generation Z workers are more than three times as likely to believe the risks of artificial intelligence outweigh the potential benefits than the reverse, according to an April 9 Gallup article.

The findings come from an online survey of 1,572 Gen Zers — ages 14 to 29 — conducted Feb. 24 to March 4 by the Walton Family Foundation, GSV Ventures and Gallup.

Here are five things to know:

1. Nearly half (48%) of Gen Z workers said the risks of AI outweigh the potential benefits, compared to 15% who said the opposite. Another 37% said the risks and benefits are about equal.

2. This reflects an increasingly skeptical view than in 2025, when 37% said the risks outweigh the benefits, 43% said they are about equal and 20% said the benefits outweigh the risks.

3. Gen Z workers are more likely to trust work completed without AI (69%) than work completed with AI assistance (28%) or work completed solely by AI (3%).

4. Respondents were slightly more wary of AI compared to 2025, when 65%, 32% and 3% of respondents reported trusting those respective categories.

5. A Jan. 27 report from Wolters Kluwer Health found that 46% of U.S. nurses said they use generative AI in the workplace. Roughly the same share said the technology could help reduce burnout by streamlining workflows, automating documentation and triaging routine patient questions. More than half of nurses surveyed said they are concerned generative AI could weaken decision-making skills or result in overreliance on algorithmic outputs.
