The change is expected to affect 500 employees, including those in clerical, technical and service roles.

With nearly 12,000 employees, Christiana Care is Delaware’s largest private employer. It’s also the state’s first health system to raise minimum wage to $15.

“This also is the right thing to do for the health of our community,” Christiana Care President and CEO Janice E. Nevin, MD, said in a prepared statement. “We know that there is a strong link between financial health and physical health, and as healthcare providers it’s important for us to lead by example in paying wages that support the financial security of our workforce.”
