A new C-suite position has been gaining traction among hospitals and health systems the last few years: chief advanced practice officer.
Also called chief APPs, chief advanced practice officers oversee nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other advanced practice providers across a given system.
The earliest chief APP appointment Becker’s could find was in November 2011, but most appointments were made between 2024 and 2026. The rise of the role may be due to more APPs entering the workforce and taking on more responsibilities at hospitals and clinics.
Several systems are hiring chief APPs, according to job listings, including UNC Health in Chapel Hill, N.C., and Cone Health in Greensboro, N.C.
Here are the hospitals and health systems that currently employ chief advanced practice officers:
- Baptist Medical Group in Memphis, Tenn., named Amanda Comer, DNP, as chief advanced practice officer in May 2025.
- Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., named Amanda Connoyer, DNP, APRN, as its first chief advanced practice clinician in 2024.
- Brigham and Women’s Hospital & Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston named Marissa Cauley, PA-C, as chief advanced practice provider officer in November 2024.
- Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles named Honore Kotler, DNP, RN, as chief advanced practice provider in August 2024.
- ChristianaCare in Newark, Del., appointed Jasmine Garces-King, DNP, RN, as chief advanced practice officer of its medical group in November 2024.
- Cleveland Clinic named Melissa Stoudmire, MSN, APRN, as inaugural VP of advanced practice providers in 2024, overseeing more than 3,600 APPs across Ohio and Florida.
- Emory Brain Health Center in Atlanta named Susana Skukalek, DNP, as director and chief of advanced practice providers in February 2019.
- Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee named Jamie Silkey, PA-C, as chief advanced practice officer in October 2023.
- Highland Hospital of Rochester (N.Y.) named Candice Job, DNP, RN, as chief advanced practice officer in May 2026.
- LCMC Health in New Orleans named Meghan Kirkland, PA-C, its inaugural chief of advanced practice in May 2026.
- Medical College of Wisconsin-Children’s Specialty Group in Milwaukee named Tara Merck, MSN, RN, as chief advanced practice officer in November 2011.
- The MetroHealth System in Cleveland named Megan Flannery, MSN, RN, as vice president and chief advanced practice officer in November 2024.
- Novant Health in Winston-Salem, N.C., named Emily Epling chief advanced practice officer in January 2026.
- Penn Medicine in Pittsburgh named Corinna Sicoutris, MSN, associate chief of advanced practice in March 2023.
- Scripps Mercy Chula Vista (Calif.) named Jesse Beloussow, DNP, as chief of advanced practice for critical care in February 2025.
- Stamford (Conn.) Health named Bethany Gleason, MSN, APRN, chief of advanced practice providers in critical care in August 2017.
- Stanford Health Care in Palo Alto, Calif., named Clair Kuriakose, PA-C, as its inaugural chief advanced practice officer in July 2023.
- UChicago Medicine named Brooke Schweitzer, DMSc, PA-C, chief advanced practice officer in February 2026.
- University of Kentucky Healthcare in Lexington named Paula Works, DNP, RN, chief advanced practice officer in December 2023.
- University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medicine named Cheryl Lustik, DNP, RN, chief advanced practice officer.
- UR Medicine at University of Rochester (N.Y.) named Anne Swantz, MSN, RN, as chief advanced practice officer in July 2021.
- UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas named Karah Sickler, DNP, RN, as chief advanced practice officer in March 2026.
- Vanderbilt Health in Nashville, Tenn., named Jasmiry Bennett, DNP, APRN, inaugural VP and chief advanced practice officer, effective November 2026.
- Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle named Hannah Boudreaux, PA-C, chief of advanced practice in November 2023.
