20 fastest-growing occupations: Nurse practitioner is No. 1

The number of jobs in the U.S. will increase by 8.3 million from 2021 to 2031, with nurse practitioner being the fastest-growing occupation in the country.

The projections are from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which classifies workers into occupational categories based on the work they perform and their skills, education, training and credentials.

According to BLS projections, these 20 occupations will see the greatest percent employment change by 2031:

1. Nurse practitioners: 45.7 percent

2. Wind turbine service technicians: 44.3 percent

3. Ushers, lobby attendants and ticket takers: 40.5 percent

4. Motion picture projectionists: 40.3 percent

5. Cooks, restaurant: 36.6 percent

6. Data scientists: 35.8 percent

7. Athletes and sports competitors: 35.7 percent

8. Information security analysts: 34.7 percent

9. Statisticians: 32.7 percent

10. Umpires, referees and other sports officials: 31.7 percent

11. Web developers: 30.3 percent

12. Animal caretakers: 29.9 percent

13. Choreographers: 29.7 percent

14. Taxi drivers: 28.5 percent

15. Medical and health services managers: 28.3 percent

16. Logisticians: 27.7 percent

17. Physician assistants: 27.6 percent

18. Solar photovoltaic installers: 27.2 percent

19. Animal trainers: 27.1 percent

20. Physical therapist assistants: 26.5 percent
