Many of the best cities for first-time home buyers are in Florida and Arizona, while the worst are in California, according to a July 14 ranking from personal finance website WalletHub.
To determine the best housing markets for first-time buyers, WalletHub compared 300 U.S. cities across affordability, real-estate market and quality of life metrics, including housing affordability, cost of living and job market.
The metrics play a role in hospital and health system recruitment and retention, as high housing costs in some markets have made it more challenging to attract and keep talent. While many organizations have created employee housing through apartment builds, others are also focused on first-time home buyers. One example is Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System, which will offer down payment assistance for employees who are first-time home buyers through a broader $203 million initiative to increase local hiring.
