Strike Possible at Cabell Huntington Hospital

Unionized employees at Cabell Huntington (W.Va.) Hospital plan to strike Nov. 14 if a contract agreement is not reached, according to a report by The Herald-Dispatch.

About 800 employees, including licensed practical nurses and maintenance workers, at Cabell Huntington Hospital are members of SEIU District 1199. The most recent contract between the hospital and the union expired Saturday, and union members rejected the hospital's most recent contract proposal, according to the report.

At issue in the contract are wage increases, higher deductibles and co-pays, and health insurance for retirees.

"We firmly believe that we have offered a fair and generous contract to our workers. We will continue to negotiate in good faith and hope to come to a resolution with SEIU 1199 very soon," the hospital said in a statement to The Herald-Dispatch.
