About 100 nurses, union organizers and supporters rallied outside City Hall in Philadelphia Saturday, demanding better staffing and nursing support jobs in local hospitals, according to a PhillyVoice report.

Those at the rally were from Temple University Hospital, Hahnemann University Hospital and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, all in Philadelphia, as well as Einstein Medical Center, with several Pennsylvania locations, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Pa., Crozer-Chester (Pa.) Medical Center, Suburban Community Hospital in Norristown, Pa., and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa.

Tracey Schonley, a nurse for 20 years now assigned to the recovery room at Hahnemann, said nurses there joined the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals in January and now want added personnel on routine patient floors as they work toward a union contract, according to the report.

Workers at other hospitals also cited what they deemed as inadequate nurse and support staffing.

Spokespersons for Hahnemann, Temple and Einstein did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the PhillyVoice.
