The union, an affiliate of National Nurses United, the AFL-CIO and the Washington Metropolitan Council, is concerned the layoffs, which could include nurses, would “result in unnecessary chaos within the hospital and will compromise the quality of care to patients,” according to a statement.
Howard University announced in February it would cut 200 positions, including some positions at its teaching hospital. A hospital spokeswoman told the Washington Business Journal that Howard University Hospital is working with the bargaining units and the proposed workforce reductions “will not compromise quality or bedside care.”
The picket is set to begin Thursday at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
