Healthcare Hires, Separations Up in March

There were 4 million job openings on the last business day of March, and 619,000 of them were in healthcare and social assistance, according to the most recent numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

While healthcare job openings only increased about 1,000 from February to March, hires increased dramatically, from 448,000 in February to 478,000 the next month.

However, the separation rate in the sector — which includes quits, layoffs and discharges — also increased in March. The industry had 448,000 separations two months ago, compared to February's 417,000 separations.
