Bureau of Health Workforce Created to Boost Care Access

The federal Health Resources and Services Administration has created a Bureau of Health Workforce, which will develop, implement and evaluate programs to strengthen the United States' healthcare workforce.

By strengthening the nation's healthcare workforce, the BHW aims to expand public access to quality healthcare, especially in currently underserved areas. The BHW will address healthcare workforce-related issues like education and training; recruitment and retention; financial support for students, faculty and practitioners; data analysis; and evaluation and coordination of global health workforce activities.

The BHW integrates HRSA workforce programs that had been under the Bureau of Health Professions and Bureau of Clinician Recruitment and Service, both of which are now defunct.
