The clinic will provide care for older adult cancer patients, aiming to assess patients’ physical, cognitive and mental health needs, according to a July 26 news release from WVU Medicine.
“Similar to the worldwide cancer burden, in our own state of West Virginia, the population of older and frailer patients with cancer is growing rapidly,” Ashkan Emadi, MD, PhD, chair and physician-in-chief of the Department of Medical Oncology at the WVU Cancer Institute, said in the release. “This underscores the urgent need for more and stronger multidisciplinary clinical care and research on the diagnosis and treatment of geriatric cancer and survivorship care for older adults.”
The clinic is set to open as part of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in Morgantown.
