WellSpan Underway to Build Specialty Hospital After Failed Merger Plans

York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health is moving forward with plans to build a rehabilitation and orthopedic hospital after year-long plans for a merger with Harrisburg, Pa.-based PinnacleHealth System fell through in February, according to a report from the Central Penn Business Journal.

WellSpan is also planning to build the $7.2 million York Hospital Medical Education Pavilion and the $5.7 million WellSpan Aspers Health Center in Adams County, according to the report.

Both WellSpan and Pinnacle are meeting with its leadership to envision future plans, according to the report. Officials from WellSpan say they would not dismiss the possibility of future merger talks with Pinnacle or another health system.
