Wells Fargo Report Shows Volume of Cardiovascular Procedures on Decline

A monthly Wells Fargo report, which tracks hospital volume, shows the volume of cardiovascular procedures has been dropping each month this year compared to last year, according to a Forbes report.

Specifically, the monthly report reveals the volume of inpatient cardiovascular surgeries and procedures decreased 9.37 percent in July 2011, compared to July 2010. Reflecting a downward trend, a drop in cardiovascular procedures has occurred each month this year, dropping anywhere between 6-11 percent compared to 2010.

Similarly, volume of outpatient cardiovascular procedures dropped by 6.28 percent in July 2011, compared to July 2010.

Hospital of Corporation of America, which also experienced declines in cardiovascular procedures and surgeries, said recent scandal over unnecessary stents and the economy may be some of the major contributing factors to the trend.
