A recent study by UW Carbone Cancer Center found the cancer mortality rate in Adams County, Wis., was more than 25.3 percent higher than the state average. The heightened death rate was associated with increased cancer risk factors, including smoking, obesity, low use of preventive health services and a lower household income.
To help lower cancer mortality rate in the region, the UW cancer center and county partners are developing a public education program on cancer education, prevention and screening. The program will include the creation of a multi-county Rural Cancer Network made up of community stakeholders.
