Mr. White’s comments come after CMS released its inpatient prospective payment system final rule for fiscal year 2013. The rule establishes the government will stop paying hospitals for treating potentially avoidable surgical site infections following cardiac implantable electronic device procedures including pacemaker and defibrillator implants.
“With CMS changing the rules for reimbursing hospitals for the treatment costs associated with these surgical site infections, the industry is fast recognizing the need to use advanced technologies to reduce the risk of these infections,” Mr. White said. “At TYRX, we are working diligently to do our part as well, by continuing to research, develop and commercialize technologies such as our AIGISRx Antibacterial Envelope, which is focused on helping reduce CIED infections and improve patient outcomes.”
