Since it was established in 1921, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital has cared for pediatric patients with various orthopedic conditions, recording nearly 40,000 patient visits per year. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, a 100-licensed bed hospital, supports the 30,000-square-foot Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay Center for Musculoskeletal Research, where physicians and researchers examine molecular genetics, bone osteonecrosis and musculoskeletal infections in pediatric orthopedic conditions. The research also extends into spine surgery, and in 2017 the National Institutes of Health awarded Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children three awards totaling $7.5 million to fund idiopathic scoliosis research.
