The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute awarded the center $1.14 million to develop a better treatment for cardiovascular disease specifically for adverse events from atherosclerosis, according to an Aug. 22 center news release.
Texas Heart Institute also received $32 million from Frederick Weissman, MD, a neurologist from New York who was a patient of the center 40 years ago. The donation will be used to support cardiovascular research, Innovation Map reported Aug. 22.
