The bill, introduced by Jack Johnson (R-Franklin), is supported by Franklin-based Community Health Systems, which operates Regional Hospital of Jackson — a Jackson-Madison General Hospital competitor.
West Tennessee Healthcare opposes the bill saying the antitrust exemption allows the system to offset the costs of caring for those without insurance coverage, according to the report.
The bill has been approved by a Senate subcommittee and will now move to the full Senate for consideration.
