Researchers examined third-party payers’ expenditures in Belgium for medical homes and individual practices in 2004. Overall, expenditures did not differ. While expenditures for primary care were higher for medical homes than for individual practices, expenditures for secondary care consultations, drugs and acute- and long-term inpatient care were lower at medical homes, according to the study.
