The US Oncology Network published a study in Journal of Oncology Practice that identified areas for improvement in cancer care costs and quality of care. Chemotherapy was one of the key factors in high cancer care costs. The researchers found that cancer patients in a commercially insured population receiving chemotherapy had costs approximately four times higher than cancer patients who did not receive chemotherapy.
The authors concluded that healthcare providers should understand the costs of cancer and create a strategic plan to control cancer costs and maintain quality care.
