The amyloidosis fellowship will be led by Sabahat Bokhari, MD, director of the Cardiac Amyloidosis and Cardiomyopathy Center at RWJUH and RWJMS, according to a Dec. 17 news release from Rutgers University.
Amyloidosis is “significantly underdiagnosed,” and without proper care patients may have six months to less than five years to live. The Amyloidosis and Cardiomyopathy Center has treated more than 600 patients with the condition since 2022, the release said.
Dr. Bokhari is credited with pioneering a widely used, noninvasive imaging method for the evaluation of cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis.
