“I’m not getting rid of all of healthcare reform. Of course there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I’m going to put in place. One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage,” Mr. Romney said on NBC’s Meet the Press, according to the report.
President Barack Obama’s administration has countered the idea, saying a requirement for insurers to cover pre-existing conditions without a requirement for insurers to cover nearly everyone else will cause prices to rocket. Economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman also said the arrangement would leave healthy people opting out of insurance and create a high-risk, high-cost pool, according to the report.
