University of North Carolina Health Care has requested public records from Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed dating back to 2009, a sign that the dispute between the two organizations over Rex Healthcare in Raleigh is not over, according to a News & Observer report.
Chapel Hill-based UNC, which owns Rex, asked WakeMed for minutes from board of directors meetings, agendas for those meetings and annual financial audits. Last winter, WakeMed did just the same to UNC: it sought public records such as the university’s correspondence with physicians in the county.
WakeMed made a hostile bid of $750 million to acquire Rex earlier this year, but UNC’s board rejected it. WakeMed has still continued to push its case with politicians and the public, claiming that buying Rex would improve patient care, eliminate redundant services and provide a cash infusion to UNC.
