The list was drafted with the goal of improving healthcare costs and patient awareness while maintaining patient safety. The nine participating specialty organizations include the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Cardiology, American College of Radiology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
These experts have recommended less frequent use of a wide variety of tests and procedures, including brain imaging scans after fainting; stress imaging tests during annual check-ups and CT scans or antibiotics for chronic sinusitis.
