Researchers studied the effect of advanced nursing intervention at triage on ED length of stay for patients with a chief complaint of abdominal pain and Emergency Severity Index level 3. They found that advanced nursing interventions at triage increased patients’ time in the department and decreased their time in the treatment room. Decreased time spent in the room makes more beds available for sicker patients, according to the study.
