Replacement Hospital Opens in California

The Howard Keck Center, a $499 million replacement facility for St. John’s Medical Center, opened in Santa Monica, Calif., after 15 years of development, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

The new hospital replaces St. John’s Medical Center which was damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, according to the report. The Howard Keck Center will include a four-story atrium and state-of-the-art equipment, including a 64-slice CT scanner and a 3-Tesla MRI scanner. The John Wayne Cancer Institute will also be housed inside.
