Researchers from Cleveland-based University Hospitals Case Medical Center performed PET/MRI scans and PET/CT scan on 145 cancer patients. The PET/MRI scan allowed clinicians to identify more accurately malignant tumors and disease stages in each patient than did the PET/CT scan, according to a report from Medical Xpress.

The PET/MRI scan fuses anatomic images from the MRI and functional information from the PET scan to create a high-resolution diagnostic tool, according to the report.
