NYU Langone Medical Center (New York). William A. Hammond, MD, became the first American to dedicate himself solely to practicing neurology in 1867, and he did so at NYU. He also founded the American Neurological Association and wrote the first neurology textbook. Today, NYU Langone Medical Center’s Department of Neurology features several specialty centers, including a concussion center, a comprehensive stroke center and the Pearl I. Barlow Center for Memory Evaluation and Treatment, in addition to many other programs. U.S. News & World Report ranked NYU Langone Medical Center the No. 9 hospital in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery for 2015-16.
