Northwestern cancer center names radiation oncology leader

Chicago-based Northwestern University has appointed Mohamed Abazeed, MD, PhD, as chair of the department of radiation oncology.

Dr. Abazeed is an associate professor of radiation oncology and co-leader of the lung cancer program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, also in Chicago, according to an 

April 14 news release from the university. 

Before joining Northwestern in 2020, Dr. Abazeed was an assistant professor of radiation oncology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, the release said. 
He is preceded in the role by Bharat Mittal, MD, who served as chair of the department of radiation oncology since its inception in 2006, and as chief of the division of radiation oncology within the department of radiology since 1993.
