Under the New Jersey Medical and Health Science Education Restructuring Act, Rutgers will operate UMDNJ’s medical schools in Newark and Piscataway, while Rowan University will be merged with Rutgers’ Camden, N.J., campus to operate UMDNJ’s osteopathic school in Stratford, N.J.
UMDNJ’s University Hospital in Newark will remain largely unaffected and will operate as a state-funded separate entity, according to the report.
A state task force recommended the merger in 2010.
Rutgers’ board of governors and board of trustees must still approve the plan for it to move forward, according to the report.
