Morristown Medical Center finds lead in its water

One of Atlantic Health System’s hospitals — Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center — last Thursday found lead in its water, according to NJ.com.

Because Morristown Medical Center uses well water, the lead has most likely only permeated the water there, according to hospital spokeswoman Elaine Andrecovich.

Since last week, Morristown Medical Center has been using bottled water for drinking and food preparation.

The state’s Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Health and the county Office of Emergency Management are investigating the situation.

“NJDEP’s Water Resources Management and Compliance and Enforcement teams are working with the hospital to assess why its independent water system has incurred these elevated levels,” said Department of Environmental Protection spokesman Bob Considine. “Once the issue is pinpointed, it will advise the hospital on a path forward to resolve it.”
