The letters stated that cardiac service payments have been reduced by 40 percent on average, as of Jan. 1, and face up to an addition 21 percent in cuts if cuts prescribed by the sustainable growth rate are not stopped by Congress, according to the report.
The cardiologists report employee layoffs, pay cuts and cuts to employee benefits, such as health insurance, in response to the Medicare cuts.
The additional cuts to cardiology payments are intended to shift more money to primary care physicians, according to the report.
