MGMA currently has 22,500 members, while ACMPE, a certification and standard-setting organization, has 6,750 members. Current members of both groups will transition into members of the new association. According to the groups, the new association will continue to use its established MGMA and ACMPE brands and will investigate ways to align these brands for the future.

The merger is intended to leverage each organization’s strengths and provide services and tools to members more efficiently and effectively, said MGMA Board Chair Shena Scott, MBA, FACMPE, executive director, Brevard Anesthesia Services in Melbourne, Fla.

The new association also announced it will be led by two board co-chairs: Nancy R. Babbitt, FACMPE, of Babbitt and Associates, and D. Cheryl Erins, MBA, FACMPE, senior systems applications analyst of Sinai Medical Group in Chicago.
