Recent changes by the Mississippi Department of Health allow for new acute-care hospitals to be considered in counties with populations over 140,000 and with projected population growth of at least 10 percent in 10 years, according to the report.

Methodist purchased $5 million worth of land in Olive Branch in April with the assumption that Mississippi Department of Health would change the requirements for new hospital approval. It previously had failed at receiving a CON for a facility in the area.
