Compounding Pharmacies May Relieve Drug Shortage for Anesthesiologists

Drug shortages continue to impact anesthesiology and compounding pharmacies may be key for supply, according to MedPageToday.

At the recent American Society of Anesthesiologists meeting, clinicians said they are still experiencing shortages are seeking alternative channels for obtaining medications, including compounding pharmacies.

Though compounders are primarily focused on providing tailored drugs for specific patient needs, these pharmacies have lately been picking up some slack during times of drug shortages.

Some pharmacies are adopting a direct-to-customer approach to instruct patients how to find local compounders if their medications are out of stock.
