Officials cited the economy and uncertainty over proposed healthcare reform as reasons for halting the project. The new Mercy facility would have been a replacement facility on the site of the former Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee, according to the report.

Medical office buildings and the outpatient Baptist Riverside remain open, but some other services may be relocated to other Mercy sites, according to the report.
