The new unit located on the sixth floor of the hospital will feature 27 beds. It will provide individualized and specialized care to cancer patients who are may have to return often for treatment. It will also allow the hospital to better coordinate care for patients and work more effectively with the pharmacy, said Marco Alvarado, RN, director of medical/surgical, hemodialysis and oncology at the McAllen Medical Center.
