Lake Region Healthcare (Fergus Falls, Minn.). Excavation for the hospital that would eventually become Lake Region Healthcare began in 1902. The hospital’s unique garden program, Lake Region Takes Root, is almost exclusively powered by volunteer labor and addresses the community’s need for affordable produce. Last year the garden produced 7,781 pounds of food, which impacted 3,500 individuals in the community. The hospital was named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by iVantage for 2016.
