Hospital staff left the ambulance running near the building while they prepared to transport a different patient. Local police said 51-year-old Pamela Cash took the ambulance and drove 3 miles before witnesses saw her rummaging through cars, trying to steal a different vehicle.
“She said she got tired of waiting on her sister at the hospital and took the ambulance,” Mt. Vernon Police Chief Brian Carter told WYMT. “I’ve been doing this for 15 years. Never had anything like that.”
Mt. Vernon police charged Ms. Cash with criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking over $10,000. She declined to speak with WYMT.
