Researchers from Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine led the study, according to a Feb. 26 news release from the health system.
The study authors are suggesting that oral prednisone, frequently used to treat heart inflammation, be used sparingly in patients with lupus to lower the risk of pericarditis recurrence.
