How Industrial Organization Psychology Fits Into Hiring

Managers and hiring professionals can improve their employee selection systems by integrating principles from industrial organization psychology into the process, according to a blog post from Select International.

Steven Jarrett, a Select International consultant, said there are three things managers and human resources professionals should know about I/O psychology.

1. I/O psychology is the application of psychology in the workplace. The main goal is to describe and predict human behavior.

2. The main goal of an I/O psychologist is to maximize effectiveness while maintaining equality in the hiring process and not discriminating against any groups.

3. Using best practices within the I/O field will improve the accuracy of hiring decisions, but no hiring system will predict with 100 percent accuracy.
