Cancer researcher and a founding member of Pittsburgh-based UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Susann Gollin, MD, PhD, has died at 71.
Dr. Gollin “pioneered important discoveries in the field of head and neck cancer,” according to an April 8 news release from the University of Pittsburgh.
She patented the observation that specific gene loss and overexpression is correlated with cancer development and treatment resistance, the release said.
“Pitt’s School of Public Health lost a giant,” Maureen Lichtveld MD, dean of university’s School of Public Health, said in the release. “Dr. Gollin’s contribution and leadership in advancing the science of human genetics will always be an inspiration to all of us.”
