The MSED is a fully functional, mobile ED funded through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense. The MSED consists of a 43-foot semi truck that includes seven critical care beds, a portable digital X-ray, telemedicine capability, a portable field laboratory and a small pharmaceutical cache.
HackensackUMC initially sent one MSED unit and six MSED support vehicles with supplies and equipment to Ocean Medical Center in Brick, N.J., to treat patients affected by Hurricane Sandy. HackensackUMC also sent the MSED units to Hillsborough, N.J., to treat patients.
