Former New York Health Commissioner Pleads Guilty to Fraud

Antonia Novello, a former New York health commissioner, has pleaded guilty to filing false documents and forcing state employees to work overtime to perform her personal errands, costing the state approximately $50,000, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel.

Ms. Novello served as the New York health commissioner from 1999-2006. She currently serves as the vice president of women’s and children’s health and policy affairs at Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando, where she is on leave, and is a former U.S. surgeon general.

According to the report, she pleaded guilt to avoid prison time.
