Florida Senate Passes Legislation in Attempt to Block Health Reform’s Individual Mandate

The Florida Senate has approved legislation that would allow voters to decide whether or not to require an individual mandate for health insurance coverage, according to a Miami Herald report.

If the legislation is approved by the House, the measure would be placed on Nov. 2012 election ballots. If approved, the measure would amend the state’s Constitution to block the federal individual mandate.

Legal experts, however, argue that federal legislation trumps state legislation, suggesting that the measure would be ineffective at overturning the individual mandate.
